Google New Search Feature

Gmail has introduced a new search feature which is really cool. I have posted many Advanced search tips earlier. this adds to the same list again.

Here is the screen shot showing this feature.

Click the Show options link and you will see a menu opening in the left side

Once when you see this menu choose the parameters to get the refined result as you wanted. You will also see a new link button appearing at the end of this menu called “Reset options” when you choose any of the other options. Just click on that link to reset any filters.

This is a great feature Google has introduced now. We had to do the advanced search so far, now no more tricky searches.Similar Posts:

I found this software Quick Internet Search today while browsing. I tested it and It works fine with IE7 but in Firefox it did not do well.

This piece of software is light weight and you can have this running at your desktop without consuming much resources. When you want to do a search in Google, Ask, Yahoo, MSN or any other search engines. Simply type in the search term and click browse. This will open a new browser window and will open the results in different tabs.

This is really good when you are involved in a research process. This should help you quickly take a look at all the major search giants.

How to check the time in Google?

It is a easy trick that Google offers you to check the time instantly.

If you want to know the current time of any major cities follow the below steps

Go to google.com
Enter Time and the city you want to know the time for, inside the search box
For example,
Type Time London
Remember to add a space between Time and the City

Google Search Results Count Difference

I don’t know why Google displays 2 different result counts when I do the same search.

This is really weird. Since I am building my site, I often check how many pages of my sites are listed in Google by doing a Domain Search.

The keyword is Site:blog.consultmirror.com

I did this search first, Google told me 1-10 of about 110 from blog.consultmirror.com

Since I wanted to see all the listed pages, I changed the preference to 100 results per page.

Once I saved the preference, It supposed to give me 100 results in 1 page and 10 in the next page. OR it should say repeated search results.

Instead of that Google just reduced the number of pages to 81.

The result now shows as 1-81 of 81 from blog.consultmirror.com

I wonder why?

I also thought, It is just a machine and it cannot be right and I also noticed a word “about” in my first search count.

Whatever it is, Google did not give me the same answer again when I did the search.

How to search inside a domain? Looking for something inside a website?

You may want to find more information from a website or find out all the links from the website. When you enter a search term in Google, it will only list the related pages of any website.

For example, if you are looking for a news in a website or a persons name and his history or specific email ID to see if it is listed on the site, Just follow these steps to find it.

Go to Google.com

Type the site name you want to search as follows

Google Site Search

You will get the result pages containing links for “blog.consultmirror.com”

So this page not only gives you the link to “blog.consultmirror.com” but also other website that has the word or phrase or link to “blog.consultmirror.com”

Now, if you want to know all the links or posts or searches only in “blog.consultmirror.com”

Add “Site:” to your search term like this “Site:blog.consultmirror.com”

You can enter any site name instead of “blog.consultmirror.com” make sure to add “www” is added, my site does not require “www” but all site requires “.com” or the domain extension as “.org” or “.info” or “.net”

So this brings 58 results and all are from “blog.consultmirror.com”

If you want to search a specific word inside the domain then add the search keyword like “blog.consultmirror.com Gmail”

Do not forget to add a space between the domain name and the keyword.

This search gives you exactly what you are looking for in a specific domain.

Google also offers this feature in the Google toolbar as “search this site”

Remember: Google only displays the page that are listed in Google. There may be more pages and information inside a website.

It is very easy to Download from Google.

This is one of the advanced search methods which an user can use in Google to get this.
Go to Google.com
Let’s find the Book called “Think and Grow Rich” by Nepoleon Hill
In the search box, enter filetype:PDF Think and Grow Rich
You will get the results as shown below

Right click on each link and click “Save Target As”
In Firefox, Right click on each link and click “Save Link as”

Select the location you want to save the E-Book or PDF
It will take a minute or 2 to save it from the internet and it is based on your connection speed

This is not a good method of downloading all the e-books from internet free of cost, sometimes it is illegal too…

If you want to search for any other Titles, then enter the Title name in the search box instead of “Think and Grow Rich” something like this�filetype:PDF you can win

Note that there are no spaces between “File and Type”

You may not get the exact result in all the links displayed in Google. So there will always be wrong downloads instead of the right ones you are looking for. But its free any way.

Search with out a specific word

If you are searching for something and if you get unwanted results, you can remove that and search for the specific words.

Here is an example:

I want to search for Camera, so I search for the word “Camera” in Google and results are below. But It shows lots of Digital camera which I do not want. I only want the results which does not contain the word Digital.

You can see above, how many Digital words have appeared in the results which I do not want.

So I am going to refine the search by using a simple trick.

Camera -Digital

I am going to add a minus (-) sign in front of Digital to tell Google that I do not want the word digital in my search results.

Lets see what happens

I do not see any words Digital, do you?

So this a way where you can filter the search results you actually require.

Searching for exact Phrases

Google has many features which are unknown to the common public or the major searchers.

When I say “Hacks” it does not mean anything illegal. Simple tricks that will get you what you want.

If you want to find the exact phrase like Cat and dog live together, add the quotation mark at both end like this “Cat and dog live together” Now Google will only bring the results that exactly matches the 2 words.

But what happens when you search without the quotation. Let me show you the view on how it looks like.

The results are good but the search words are split into pieces. You should exactly find the phrase that you have searched for. Here it is

Do you see the difference?

The search with the quote, narrowed the result exactly to what you expected. These are also called operators.
