Gmail Tips and Tricks – Gmail Search, Inside Chat or Gtalk

Gmail offers a great search feature similar to Google search.

Gmail chat history or Gtalk history is stored inside your Gmail account. You can do a search only inside the Gtalk chat history by following the method below.

In the Gmail search box type is:chat

This Gmail search will bring all the chat history.

If you are looking for any messages or chat name type is:chat David

How to Turn on or Turn off the chat feature in Gmail?

By default when you open the Gmail you will have the chat feature enabled. So when you check your email, actually your friends or contacts can see you “online and open for chat”. You may not want to chat with them, but if they send a message, Gmail pops with their message and most of the time you cannot avoid answering them.

So if you do not want Gmail feature, you can disable it by doing the following.

Sign into Gmail account

Go to the bottom of the page (See the screen shot for example)

You will see “Turn on chat” or “Turn Off chat” link, just press that and you can disable or enable the chat feature.

Gtalk is a Chat Software introduced by Google.

Instant Messaging, PC to PC voice calls, Gmail Notifications, File Transfers

Gtalk is a lightweight software for Instant Messaging, it has all the features of other popular IM softwares like Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, AOL (AIM) and there are no annoying ads in Gtalk.
