Turn Off / On Chat feature in Gmail

How to Turn on or Turn off the chat feature in Gmail?

By default when you open the Gmail you will have the chat feature enabled. So when you check your email, actually your friends or contacts can see you “online and open for chat”. You may not want to chat with them, but if they send a message, Gmail pops with their message and most of the time you cannot avoid answering them.

So if you do not want Gmail feature, you can disable it by doing the following.

Sign into Gmail account

Go to the bottom of the page (See the screen shot for example)

You will see “Turn on chat” or “Turn Off chat” link, just press that and you can disable or enable the chat feature.
