I have seen and tried many desktop blogging software or editors. Some are not free in the market. The one that I recommend is completely free.

I recommend Windows Live Writer.

This has many great features somewhat like Microsoft Office.

I am not going to suggest a software that will make you type faster but there is a free software where it will memorize the frequently used word, sentences, paragraphs, signature and many more.

As a blogger it is very helpful to me. If you are a person using emails as a part of your everyday life, this should be a great option to save a lot of time and energy.

This is called MemoKeys. You can assign a hot key for each memory. And this only allows you to store the content using functional keys other than Cntrl or Alt or Shift. So your regular work will not get affected. The same time, When you are working in MS office application your functional keys will not work.

For example, if you have Memokeys running, you cannot use F2 to edit the cells in MS Excel. Not only this key, you cannot use any other Functional keys along with memo keys, you need to close MemoKeys than use MS Office.

How to easily delete the temporary files from your PC

When you delete the temp files from your Windows PC, your PC will function faster.

Temp files are stored in your computer when you work. All the temp files are stored in a folder for faster access. When you browse the Internet, the web-pages will store several information in the temp folder for faster access.

So it is always good to delete the temp folders.

Click Start
Click “Run”, you will see a small window to enter the information.
Enter %temp%
Yes, Don’t forget to put % at the beginning and at the end
Then click Run
You will see a window opening with all the temp files in it. Select all the files and press “Delete”
Sometimes all the files will not be deleted, you can use Unlocker to unlock those files and delete
You can do this either at the beginning of your work or before you shutdown your PC

How to ZIP or Compress Folders and email?

You cannot email a folder containing many files. No email provider allows that.

But you can compress the folder or convert the folder into Zipped file and email it.

All email provider allow you to send the files but not the folders, folders only contain many files but folders are not files.

If you have many files in one folder, simply follow the steps to ZIP and email.

I have created a demo folder for demo purpose

The folder name is Demo and it contains many text documents inside as seen below

Now go back to the folder and right click the folder

You will get set of menu which is called “Context Menu”

Click on “Send to” menu

Then click “Compressed (zipped) Folder” menu as seen below

You will sometime get a notification as seen below

You can click “Yes”

Once you click that, based on the size of the folder, you will immediately get a Zipped file instead of a folder.

Now you can view this folder in any Windows PC that is using XP or Vista. And you can also email this file as an attachment.

There are seperate softwares available for compressing folders and files. I have posted this only to help you know how to email a folder.

Lets find some audio file using Limewire

Open Lime wire and Click
Enter “Think and grow Rich” in the search parameter

Wait till the top header turns in to green, i.e., wait for the search to complete
Find the availability by the number of seeders or sharers
Choose the maximum number with the appropriate title and click download
This will download the file into your� computer
You will require the someone to share files for you, this can be an unknown individual from any location, all you need is a person who has the file should switch on Limewire

This is more secure program to download the files for free
You can click the Video Tab to download movies or music videos
To download Documents, Images, Software or all types of files by choosing the left control panel
Lime wire also has the library to maintain the documents that you download

Limewire also comes with the Media player to play the audio that you have downloaded

You can browse the downloaded files from the bottom section
There are more options available to tune the download speed by changing the settings
This will by default take all your internet connection speed to download the files you have selected, So change the settings or download when the internet connection is free

Start Menu and Classic Start Menu

Windows XP offers 2 types of start menu

1. Regular Start Menu

2. Classic Start Menu

The difference between both

Classic start menu will not have the My computer / My documents /My Music links inside the start menu. But the regular or the new Start Menu will have all these and it will not display the My computer and My documents Icon in the desktop.

I used to work with classic menu, recently I have changed it because I do not store anything in my Desktop.

You can switch between these two by right clicking on Start Menu and click properties as shown below

Click on the Properties and you will see the window as below

Choose which one you want to opt for.

You can also Customize the start menu by clicking the “Customize” button as shown in the above image.

You will get a pop like below for regular Start Menu

If you want to change the size of the displayed icons inside start menu, choose anything as I have marked as 1 or 2
You can control how many recently accessed programs can be displayed on the left side of the start menu (You can see I have about 12 Items) So change the number to how many you want. I have numbered it as “3″ in the image
If you want to delete all the list on the left side of the start menu click “Clear List” I have marked it as number 4
You can choose the browser or the email client of your choice to display in your left Top of Start menu. All the available Email Client and browsers are listed under the drop down menu. I have marked this 5 and 6 in the image above.

Customizing Classic Start Menu

Right click the Start Menu and then Click Properties
Choose Classic Start Menu and Click the “Customize” button
The menu will look like below

If you want add any programs to Start menu click the “Add” button and the wizard will guide you, all you have to do is like the program or documents that you want to access from Start Menu.
If you want to remove any item from Start Menu, click “Remove” and you will get the list of items available in your start menu.
If you click “Advanced” you will see a new window opening as I have explained earlier, you can add, remove and organize programs from a folder view or explorer view.
If you want all the Start Menu to be organized alphabetically, just click “Sort”
You can also clear recently accessed programs, documents, Web pages by clicking clear button
Advanced Start Menu options have some advanced features that I will talk later.

Start Menu appears on the left bottom corner of any windows system by default. and this can be adjusted to any direction like right left and top.

When you click on the start menu you will get a list of menu like below

The left side of the column has the recently accessed program and the right side of the menu has the shortcut to many programs.

You can completely customize this start menu by yourself or by spending some money buying some software. I suggest you to try it for yourself.

Right click on the start menu (RIGHT CLICK) and you will see a menu like below. (you may not have all that appearing in the screen shot)

When you click Open, It will open a window by default in the following location

C:\Documents and Settings\Mirror

Mirror is the login Id for the computer so I have Mirror here, for example if your user Id is Daniel the link will be like below

C:\Documents and Settings\daniel

Here you will see the start menu items listed, You can arrange this item and also delete add more shortcuts to the start menu.

And these item will be listed in the start menu as seen below

You will see what ever you have added on the right side top of the Start menu.

But hey wait, This may not be the one you wanted to change but everything down below the right top section.

Here it is how to do

C:\Documents and Settings\Mirror\Start Menu\Programs

(Instead of Mirror enter your Computer user name.)

You will see all the programs under your user name. You can add new programs delete start menu item and create new shortcut, why not have one of your frequently accessed� file placed there, and you will see that in your start menu.

But there is one more thing, There are still programs that you cannot see in this window but that will appear in the start menu. How to organize that?

Right Click the “Start Menu”

Left Click “Explore All users”

This will open a window and that is usually

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu

You will see all the folders like programs folder and any other application shortcut.

This is very simple and useful. I will try to post a video later.

You can delete all the temp files in your system by the following methods.

Click start and run
Type� %temp%
A new window will open with all the files and folders that are temporary.
Select all by pressing Ctrl+A
Delete all the files by pressing delete key
To Delete the files permanently press Shift+delete together

Regular windows search function is not that good. If you want to search any file, it takes so much time to get the result and too many options that you do not need.

Here is the best search software which is again very small. You do not need to install this. All you have to do is just run the file and save the data base in a desired location.

This is also called IYF (index your files)

How it works?

Once you install this software, you need to index all your files by clicking and selecting the location. This is very fast, I mean very very fast. Once the index is done, you can start searching for any files or folders. This is a wonderful software which is free of cost. (Freeware)

This helps you to add more folders that you frequently access. For example, when you want to send an email and the file is in D: drive, when you click browse to attach the file it will only open “My Documents” then you need to navigate to the specific drive and the folder to attach the file.

Using folder guide, you just need to click on the folder which is already there in your context menu.

Before doing this you need to add the frequently accessed folder to the Folder guide.
