Gmail Tips and Tricks – Play and Download Mp3 file from your Gmail

Gmail offers this great feature where you can play your mp3 attachment on the go. It is fast compared to any other email providers like Yahoo or MSN.

When you receive an email in your Gmail with the mp3 attachment, you can either play� it online or download it.

To do this login to Gmail
Open the attachment that contains mp3 files
At the bottom of the message you will see the attachment

You have 2 options either to download or to play the file
Click Download and the file will be downloaded to your local drive
Click Play to play the file on the web
When you click Play, Gmail opens a new small window and it automatically loads the file as seen below

You can Pause the audio and you can forward it by dragging the slide bar and you can increase the volume
Remember you need to install flash player to use this function from Gmail

If you want to know the size of any messages in Gmail as seen in any other email services, you may not be able to get it.

Gmail does not offer this feature and it seems like there are not working on it too.

You can see the attachment size but not the message size.

More often we never want to see the size of the message but we all worried only about the attachment size.

If you want to send inline images you may have to worry about your message size which you cannot see.

Using Gmail you can find if a message is sent to you only or to a group of people.

To say this more clearly, if a message is sent to you and your address is the only address in the �To� field. There might be other people included in the same email but in CC or BCC field.

Gmail offers a feature� called Personal Level Indicator. You need to enable this feature by following the methods below.

Login to you Gmail account
On top right corner you will see the �Settings� link and click
This will open a General tab with loaded option
Middle of the this page just below the Signature option you will find the Personal Level Indicator option
Choose Show indicators as shown below
Now save the changes that you made at the bottom
Go to your Inbox
You will see the messages with the small arrow indicating this feature

If you see a double arrow >> this means that the message is sent to you and also to many others
If you see a single arrow > this means that the message is only sent to you
This should help you prioritize your email reading in Gmail

Gmail Tips and Tricks – How to Reply email by Chat in Gmail (Google mail)?

Gmail offers chat feature inside your mail window.

If you see your contacts online, and if you want to chat online you can use Gmail chat option displaying on the left side of the screen.

Also, if you has received an email from your contact and if you want to discuss about the same topic you can choose �Reply by Chat�

This feature helps you save the message and the chat conversation in a same group, so you don’t need to search for the message related to your chat or related to email.

Make sure your contact is online

Open the message

At the bottom of the message you will see the option �Reply by Chat to ��

Click the link �Reply by Chat to ��

You will see the chat window pop-up opening at the bottom of your screen

And you can start chatting with your contact. This will save the email and the chat history in your chat history.

Gmail Tips and Tricks – Conversation View Messages (Google Mail Reading)

If you are a new user to Gmail, you may be confused with this feature that Google offers.

What is conversation view?

When you send an email from your Gmail, and if you get a reply to your message with the same subject line, both the messages are arranged in single email view as seen below

You will see the Message sender and the replier and the number of messages

Whoever started the conversation, will appear first and the last replier will appear next

When you click the message, you will get the� message view as seen below

You will see the Subject on top in Bold letters, next the old messages as hidden and the new messages are the open readable and open now

You can view the Old message by clicking on the Old message subject

There is also an option of Expand or Collapse all the messages as seen below

When the messages are displayed together, click �Expand all�

When all the messages are displayed, click �Collapse all�

You can also click �Forward all� to forward all the message in the current conversation to any email address

Gmail conversations are best but it is still facing some issues, like not related messages are in the conversation. Gmail basically uses the subject line to arrange the conversation, so if any one sends you a message with the same subject line it is organized in the same conversation.

Gmail (Google Mail) offers a small piece of software to notify you that you have a new email. This works great.

You do not need to go to your inbox or open your Gmail Tab to check for a new email.

Install Gmail Notifier and get the notification as seen below.

If a new email comes you will see a notification in your system trey which is at the right bottom of your windows PC.
The blue color mail icon indicates that Gmail notifier is running
Right click on the gmail notifier to get the below seen options

When you click �View Inbox� Notifier will open the Gmail inbox in your default browser
You can click �Check mail now� to check any new emails, but you don�t need to do it since Gmail notifier automatically checks for new emails
If you want to know the recent notification just click �Tell me Again�, this will show the latest notification again.
If you want to set up your default browser for checking Gmail, you can click �Options� This will open a small window as seen below
You can choose the default browser for viewing Gmail inbox

Click on the check box if you want to use Gmail as default email handler when you click on any email links
You can choose the browser you want and click OK to save the options
During the installation Gmail notifier will ask for the user name and password

The disadvantage is, you can only have only one gmail account configured with the Gmail notifier, so this will not be useful when you want multiple email notification

How many times you have spent your time selecting each message one by one?

It is very hard sometimes to click on each check box to select a group of messages. This is a common problem with all the web based emails. But Gmail (Google mail) offers a simple feature to defeat this obstacle.

Click the check box of top message and click the check box of the bottom message holding “Shift” key, you will see all the messages selected.

So if you want to select about 3 or more continuous messages, stop clicking each check boxes, Simply hold the shift key and click the top and bottom check boxes of the messages.

Below is the simple demo of how it works.
